Applicants need not attend our Summer Program; however, most of our entrants come after their positive experience in the summer.

 Applicants must audition either by videotape or in person in our Pittsfield studios.
Year-round students receive three and a half hours of class each day, Monday through Friday, and two and a half hours on Saturday plus rehearsals. The curriculum includes ballet technique, pointe, partnering, classic pointe variations, men's class, character, and acting.
Year-round students take a full college preparatory high school curriculum, grades 9 through 12, as students of Maine Central Institute, a private high school established in 1866. The ballet course counts for 2 credits each semester and is continuous all four years. Students can matriculate as freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors, depending on their previous credits earned in home town or other institutions.
Ballet and other academics are all on the same self-contained campus along with dormitories and dining.
Because ballet is an accredited course, fully integrated with Maine Central Institute's academic curriculum, there is no contention between ballet and other academics. Each supports and encourages the other.
 Classes are small. The year-round residential ballet class includes 15 select students.
Historically, Maine Central Institute's ballet students have been the school's highest achievers in terms of SAT scores and grade point average. BBT dancers have recently gone directly from their senior year in high school to the following companies and colleges:
